Andy Murray to hang up his Wimbledon racquet after spinal surgery
Two-time winner to bid farewell to the All England Club
Murray, 37, is the last British man to have won Wimbledon
Former world number one Andy Murray has announced that he will not play in the singles competition at this year's Wimbledon after recently undergoing spinal surgery.
The 37-year-old is making his final appearance at the All England Club, where he has won two titles and reached the final on four other occasions.
"Wimbledon has always been a special place for me, and I've always loved playing there," Murray said in a statement. "But I've had to make the tough decision to retire from the singles competition this year."
Murray underwent hip resurfacing surgery in January 2019 and has since struggled with injuries. He has not played a singles match since last year's Wimbledon, where he lost in the second round to John Isner.
Despite his injury struggles, Murray has remained a popular figure in tennis and has been widely praised for his fighting spirit.
